Backwards Prophet (Jonah 1:1-17)

Today’s sermon audio can be found on Castbox at 177 “Backwards Prophet” Jonah 1:1-17.

Hunter Galemore started a series on Jonah and Nahum this morning. In Jonah Hunter is going to focus on God’s great mercy on Nineveh and on Jonah. In Nahum he will focus on God’s just wrath against sin and His righteous judgment against Nineveh.

The thesis of today’s sermon: our sinning against God is foolishly backwards.

We see in this passage that:

Our sin tries to subvert God’s rule (v.1-3),
our sin affects others as well as ourselves (v.4-6),
our sin reveals our selfishness (v.7-16),
and our sin is not greater than God’s sovereignty (v.17).
