Today’s sermon audio can be found on Castbox at 154 “But Who Are You” James 4:11-17.

Our primary text for March 8 was James 4:11-17. For our first reading we read Acts 17:22-29. We started by reviewing the Creator-Creature Distinction because James gives us two examples of sinfully ignoring that distinction. We slander God’s law by slandering our brothers and sisters. We make ourselves to be God when we make arrogant boasts about the future. We need to avoid sinning with our words in these two ways. But we also need to avoid sinning with our thoughts in these two ways. We concluded by considering Paul’s summary of the core of the Gospel at 1 Corinthians 15:1-11. Everything we do, everything we attempt should flow out of the Gospel. We are guilty because of our sin; we are saved because of God’s grace; we express our gratitude to God by our sanctification.

Second London Confession of Faith Chapter 7 Of God’s Covenant

“7.1 The distance between God and the creature is so great, that although reasonable creatures do owe obedience to him as their creator, yet they could never have attained the reward of life but by some voluntary condescension on God’s part, which he hath been pleased to express by way of covenant.”
